About the Songs

"My Shoes Are Leaking" This song is an audience favorite and has received the most radio airplay of any of my songs. An up-and-coming Producer heard my production of the song, and we later collaborated on this more pop version that I adore. The arrangement for this version was done by the fabulous Doug Emery (Barbra Streisand "Guilty Pleasures"). The vocal melody takes me to the top of my pop range, to a high E with full tone.

If you've ever had a break-up or challenging relationship, you'll probably understand this song. There are moments in life when you know that something important is happening. If the outcome isn't great, the mind has this funny mechanism where instead of allowing the reality to hit you all at once, you suddenly become hyper-aware of details in your surroundings.

In this case, it was a relationship that had been up and down for over a year. It was very cold that winter and we were walking outside in snow and a light drizzle, and all of a sudden I was very aware of my boots. They were slowly but surely leaking and my socks and toes were getting wet. I have practical boots, a pair with 4-inch stiletto heels, a pink pair, a 60's-ish pair with brown suede and flower designs as well as the above pair, which was actually advertised as being "leakproof". Hmmm...

"Chemistry" I was, I'm embarrassed to say, a bit of a nerd in high school. Either I actually enjoyed study or was too afraid to make anybody mad or both!

Anyway, despite good grades I never understood chemistry at all and thought the whole experience was like a foreign language with no translator. I digress. When you meet somebody you're attracted to, something magical happens. Or is it scientific?

"Panther Man" is about a very passionate man who wants and desperately needs love in his life, but is ultimately terrified of intimacy. Perhaps a lot of us are a bit this way.

"Inside the Music" I think it's important to give back to your community. I teach keyboard to Los Angeles inner-city kids. I love these kids! They get so charged by new things and have razor-sharp minds. A lot of them know pop, hip-hop and rap artists but not classical. I wanted them to know about Beethoven, who is such a monumental figure in music. Not to mention the fact that he overcame a major obstacle (his deafness) and still created such incredible music.

The intro and outro to my song have a bit of "Fur Elise" in it and the middle has a rap! This is my take on bridging the timeless with the contemporary. Hope you enjoy.

Much Love,
Katherine
