Lyrics
Hello Listeners:
Below are some lyrics to many songs on "Songs from the Troubadour" LP. In medieval Europe, troubadours were traveling storytellers who often sang and played music. They lived a gypsy's life, keeping folk legends and stories alive in the hearts of the people. I believe in the power of stories, both personal and universal ones. Sometimes only by knowing a person's real story can you connect with them and love them.
These songs are personal, from the heart, about themes and people that have inspired and touched me. I am so blessed to have received the guidance I have and to have had the teachers and mentors that have helped me grow as a woman and as an artist. I hope these songs may touch you in some way...

Mama
For Betty Lou - with endless gratitude
mama, i can see inside you
right through to the guilt that's hidin' in your heart
my voice inside said it's time to tell you
to not be sorry any more
mama did you think that
i didn't learn what you taught
it just took me a few years to find out
what it meant to me
you see the fairy man
gave me this gift
and i threw it all away
yes, i threw it all away
and he took my arms away...
and i spent three years
and i could not play
few noticed, for i looked the same
but i could not play
your music was hard to hear, oh mama
it made me feel and it made me remember you..
maybe the fairy man
was punishing me...
oh, but now
i have made peace with the fairy man
and i will use His gift, i will use His gift well
watch me play now
and now i can cry
when i feel gray inside
and i can shout when i feel red.
so don't feel sorry,
it turned out alright,
watch me play now,
watch me fly
i don't play for you anymore
but just think how much better
i'll play for you - when i do
oh mama

Ease Your Pain
(Radio Single)
verse:
i know what you're going through
you don't know what to do
life just seems so hard.
just call on me and i will see
the light that shines
inside your heart
chorus:
i will ease your pain,
ease your pain,
ease your pain,
if you ask me to
verse:
you're not weak, they were wrong
sometimes we must go to the bottom
and come up strong
there's nothing to lose and so much to gain
so please won't you let me
in again...
repeat chorus
bridge:
no matter how far apart we are
there's always one thing i can do
so don't deprive me of my joy...
when you don't know what to do,
call on me...and I will

Beyond Reason
Words can hurt us so
and block the trust
that is trying to grow.
I wish I had been stronger
and held to my faith longer.
But I'm human; I let you down 'cause I'm human.
And I still struggle to be
as constant as the raging sea...
I've always been drawn to you.
I've always wanted you.
Please don't take that for granted;
all these seeds that we've planted.
I hate to see you cry.
I'll hold you up so you'll kiss the sky.
Please try and understand,
I love you the best way I can
Beyond Reason
My love has a strength beyond reason.
I've watched it grow with each season
into a love beyond reason.
I love you with a strength
Beyond Reason
Someday we will reach our dreams
and laugh at how hard it seemed.
I know you will make me proud.
We will fly on an angel's cloud.
Please know I believe in you.
Look inside my heart and see that I do.
Share with me your deepest plans.
I'll help you in anyway I can

OCEAN
Sometimes I drown in an ocean
of tears that have no name.
I've tried to find the end of my ocean
but it stretches a long, long way.
I hope to find the end of my ocean
someday,
someday.
I'd like to dream in an ocean
and dance with the fish all day.
I'd like to dream in an ocean
and swim all my sorrows away.
I'd like to dream in an ocean
someday,
someday.
Piano Interlude
I'd like to be your ocean
and show you what my heart can't say.
I'd like to be your ocean
and cover you with kisses and sea spray.
I'd like to be your ocean
someday,
someday.

I Believe
Radio Single (as heard on Y-100 FM and others)
For Patti LaBelle
|
verse:
floundering, i was sinking;
life had lost its meaning.
my friends would say
"you've got to try,
get up and keep on living."
oh, faith had gone on a holiday,
and hope had no place to stay.
i thought that things would always be that way.
verse 2:
but slowly in time,
the answers started to come to me;
that i was the only one
who could change how it would be.
oh, life will never stop hurting us,
but it's easier if we learn to trust.
and then suddenly it was all clear;
those things that i hold dear...
chorus 1:
i believe
in the songs that are inside me.
i believe
in a power that i can't see.
i believe,
in the promise of tomorrow.
i believe
there's a light we all can follow.
verse 3:
life has been harder
than i expected it to be.
but it's also given me moments of joy
i thought i'd never see.
i've learned enough to know i'll cry again.
and i've learned enough to know i'll laugh
and then maybe next time i fall
i'll remember to stand up tall and say...
repeat chorus 1
chorus 2:
i believe
someday we're all gonna come home.
i believe
then all life's secrets will be known.
i believe
while we're here we're put to the test.
i believe
if you put your trust in love and faith
you will be given the rest.
